Our Newark Weight Loss Hypnotherapy specialises in helping people to get control over emotional eating. Now when people talk to us about eating emotionally they tend to talk about it in very generalistic terms. They know they would class themselves as an emotional eater but they just can’t place their finger on why exactly they are doing it. Sometimes emotional eating is very obvious. You have had a bad day at work, its raining and on the way home you get stuck in a traffic jam. By the time you get home your are feeling thoroughly miserable but a cup of tea and a chocolate bar helps to take your mind off the problem. Real emotional eating however does not happen once in a blue moon but almost daily. That is when the issue becomes problematic and the weight starts to pile on.
Interestingly your conscious mind is very aware that your are overeating and in most case makes attempts to try and stop you from eating too much. You may go on diets, resolve to exercise daily but after a short time the problem starts again and you are back to square one. In fact you may even end up heavier than you were before you started. This is because part of your mind (the subconscious) feels that the overeating is necessary. In most cases this overeating is because it is trying to help you in some way. In other words help you dissociate from anger, upset, anxiety or fear as just a few examples. The subconscious will have learned this behaviour many years ago where the eating may have helped for a short time but now it continues this behaviour even though it is no longer useful to you. Hypnotherapy is the bridge between your conscious and subconscious minds and tries to help the part of your mind which is dong the unhelpful behaviour to change.
Our Newark Weight Loss Hypnotherapy does not involve any form of magic but deep relaxation mixed in with analytical hypnotherapy to create change. Many of our clients would love us to resolve their problems in one session but frankly that isn’t possible for most people unless you have a simple fear or phobia. Generally somewhere between three to six one hour sessions are needed to create a new pattern of eating. This is because we need to work with our clients to understand why the problem is there and that can take time.
In your first session we spend some time with our clients asking them detailed questions not only about their weight but also about their life and medical history. By doing this we are looking for clues as to why the problem may exist. An anxious person for example may use food as a way of escaping from the feelings of fear they feel daily. Our assessments can take anywhere from half and hour or the full hour session and they are essential at helping us tackle a long term weight issue. If there is time left in the first session we begin by using suggestion hypnosis to help our clients learn to relax with their therapist whilst being given positive suggestions. Then at the end of the session our clients are sent away with an audio to listen to before their next session which will reinforce the weight loss messages.
It is in the subsequent sessions where we work with our clients using a much deeper form of analytical hypnosis. Now instead of a hypnotherapist just giving you suggestions we begin interactive questioning under hypnosis. This will help us to ask questions which hopefully will give us an idea of where the problem began from. Once we are aware of what the subconscious is trying to do it becomes much easier make changes to old patterns of eating. This work can take one to four sessions depending on the complexity of the issue.
If our clients want we can also perform a virtual gastric band operation at the end of the analytical hypnotherapy sessions. This has been increasingly popular in recent times and can help to trick the subconscious further into believing it can no longer eat such large portions. Many of our clients have lost stones using this method with our biggest loser having lost over ten stone using these techniques.
