Hypnotherapy Binge Eating NottinghamHypnotherapy for Binge Eating Nottingham

Binge Eating Disorder is a psychological condition that can impact your physical and your mental health. Contrary to popular belief the treatment for the problem doesn’t involve weight loss or dieting which only make the problem worse but therapy to address the root causes of the overeating. Binge eating hypnosis with a qualified senior clinical hypnotherapist takes a holistic approach to resolving the problem. We look at your eating habits, lifestyle, stress levels and emotional eating to help you take control and eat more positively.*

Eating Disorder Hypnosis

Losing weight is often the reason why many potential clients call when looking to help with their overeating. Usually, we conduct a preliminary phone assessment to check whether they are really suitable for weight loss hypnosis or if they have a problem with binge eating or any other eating disorder.

If we believe they are a binge eater then we make it clear that dieting is not a suitable solution for their problem and we discuss our stop binge eating program with them instead.

Binge Eating is actually classified as an eating disorder. This is important when it comes to understanding and taking back control over your food intake. If you have an eating disorder you should not be looking at dieting clubs, faddy diets that cut back on certain food groups or fasting. If you do then it is likely that you will not lose weight and you may only make your problem worse. Learning to stop binge eating is not about cutting calories but understanding the physical and psychological reasons for your problem.

What Classifies You As a Binge Eater?

Not all people who eat unhealthy foods or overeat are binge eaters. This is why it is important for us to discuss your eating habits in an initial discovery call. This allows us to place you in the right food program instead of placing you on our weight loss sessions. If there is any difficulty determining your problem we may refer you to a healthcare professional such as a doctor to get their opinion.

Binge eating disorder is typically categorised by some of the following issues. If you believe that you can answer yes to most of the following then you may have binge eating problems.

  • Do you tend to eat large quantities of food in one sitting even when you know that you are not hungry?
  • If many of your calories are eaten in a two hour time window this can be an indicator of the disorder.
  • Do you restrict your food intake or over diet?
  • Excessive dieting is often behind the need to eat too much because it makes you feel hungry.
  • Have you binged at least once a week for the last three months?
  • An occasional binge is not necessarily an indicator of the problem but regular overeating is.
  • Are you a person who eats junk food in secret?
  • Hiding your food binges can be one indicator of the problem.
  • When you binge do you eat very quickly and to the point where you feel uncomfortable?
  • Most binge eaters will eat so much that it makes them physically feel bad.
  • Do you feel you have no control over food and are anxious and upset about what you have been eating?
  • Binge eating disorder makes you feel bad about yourself. Those difficult emotions can cause the problem to get worse so you enter into a binge eating cycle.
  • Finally, do you purge after overeating by taking excessive exercise, laxatives or by being sick?
  • If you do then you may not have binge eating disorder but bulimia.

If you can answer yes to most of these questions then you are at a high risk of having a binge eating disorder. There is a large amount of guilt and shame associated with this form of eating especially when the binge eater is consuming large quantities of food on an almost daily basis. Our Binge Eating Hypnosis program in Nottingham or via Zoom can help you to address the reasons for the binge behaviour so that you take back control.*

Hypnosis for Binge Eating Disorder

So what makes a person binge and start overeating? Well, the answer may be different for everyone we see but there are some common themes that we see again and again.

The number one reason for the problem is people who try and take control of their weight and start to diet excessively as a way of looking or feeling better about themselves. The restriction of calories is difficult to sustain and makes them hungry. Eventually, the hunger becomes too much and they overeat to compensate. Usually, the amount of calories they overeat is more than if they had eaten normally.

There are of course other psychological reasons for the problem that link to the problem and cause emotional eating to play its part as well. This is why therapy for binge eating disorders looks at your mental health and wellness as well as what you are doing physically. Just some of the difficult emotions our clients may need help with include:

Self-Esteem Issues

Many of our clients suffer from negative thinking especially a belief that they are not good enough. So internally they have a battle striving to be better or perfect but overeating as comfort when they feel they haven’t met their high standards. Low self-confidence and self-esteem may need to be addressed when we use stop binge eating hypnosis.

Anxiety or Stress

When you are feeling on edge and out of control or fearful then food becomes a way of distracting yourself from the underlying problem. During a binge, the person dissociates from the issue but it returns again once the overeating has finished. We work with our clients to help them to address the root causes of stress and anxiety as part of our work.

Eating Disorders

We know that if our clients have suffered from Bulimia or Anorexia in the past they are more likely to suffer from the disorder.

Dieting

We have already mentioned that dieting can play a large part in the problem. To get our clients to stop binge eating we teach them better ways of eating by using mindfulness or intuitive eating. Dieting never plays a part in our therapy programs because they are impossible to stick to in everyday life and makes people feel bad about themselves.

Negative Emotions

If you feel lonely, upset, angry, guilty or have a critical internal voice then food becomes a way of comforting you from these thoughts. Our therapy looks at our client’s underlying thoughts and feelings to help them make positive changes. Hypnosis for binge eating involves working with the subconscious mind to understand what may be happening in the deep emotional space in your brain. When we understand the root causes of binge eating they become easier to resolve with therapy.

We also recognise that there is a distinction between a binge eater and a bulimic. Unlike a bulimic, a binge eater will not purge after they have overeaten. This means that people with Binge Eating disorders may gain large amounts of weight due to their problem. This causes people to think that weight loss sessions are the answer when in fact the food is just a symptom of the problem, not the root.

Hypnotherapy for Binge Eating Disorder

At our clinics in Nottinghamshire, we have created a specialised program to help people to take back control over their food intake so that they can stop binge eating. Our program takes place over five sessions which are spread one to two weeks apart. Each session during the program lasts for one hour. The purpose of the program is to help our clients reset their eating patterns and learn how to avoid overeating by changing bad habits, improving their lifestyle and addressing their emotional issues.

During the initial session of our Stop Binge Eating Hypnosis program, we will spend time with you taking a case history and talking about any emotional problems which could be contributing to your problem. This assessment helps us to create an action plan which can be tailored to your specific needs and issues.

Where possible we try and conduct some hypnosis in this session to make you familiar with the deep relaxation that is involved in hypnotherapy. Following this session, you will be given an audio to listen to which should help deepen the relaxation so that by your second session you are able to tackle the emotional issues at the heart of the problem.

Self-Hypnosis for Binge Eating

All of our clients are given audios to listen to as part of their program. These audios can help to increase feelings of relaxation which reduce stress and anxiety. They also help to reprogram your subconscious mind by using positive suggestions to help change the way your mind is thinking.

If you are unable to attend our clinics or online sessions you can purchase a self-hypnosis download for binge eating from our online store to use at home.

Food Therapy Helps The Root Causes of Binge Eating

After our initial assessment session, we spend the next sessions teaching our clients how to alter their relationship with food. Our aim is to help you change negative psychological and physical patterns during these hypnosis sessions.

These subsequent sessions are highly tailored to your needs but may include help for everything from lifestyle choices to confidence and self-esteem building.

We use analytical hypnotherapy as well to help us determine, where possible, why your problem began and to help you move forward. In many cases, our clients are not consciously aware of what may have started the problem or have not associated a memory with the issue. Our senior qualified hypnotherapist is an expert in asking the right questions to uncover the problem so that they can help you with behaviour change.*
